12-th of May 2021.
In 2019-2020, the Institute of Public Health (IPH) of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jagiellonian University Medical College, together with five other European universities, participated in the “This Is Public Health – Europe” (TIPH Europe) campaign with the project titled „Public Health is the future!”. The TIPH Europe campaign was aimed at increasing the public health awareness. It was funded by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), based in Washington, DC, and organized in cooperation with ASPPH partner organization – the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER).
Following the fruitful results of TIPH Europe, the new awareness raising campaign was proclaimed by the ASPPH, i.e. This Is Public Health – Global (TIPH Global). Building on the successful participation in TIPH Europe campaign, the IPH submitted the proposal for the project to be carried out under the TIPH Global campaign. The project proposal was prepared by Dr. Tomasz Bochenek and Dr. Ilona Nenko. The proposal was successful, and it was selected for the TIPH Global Grant Program together with 19 other projects from around the world. Thus, we are happy to announce the start of our TIPH Global project titled ” Public Health now – building on rich tradition and successes let’s respond to the challenges of the future!”. The main project objectives are to promote social awareness about public health and present career opportunities for public health graduates.
We enter TIPH Global campaign together with a diverse group of partnering organizations, all of which share a unique interest in public health
These include (from the East to the West):
The TIPH Global provides the opportunity for the 20 TIPH Global Grant Program Awardees from around the world to exchange their experiences and work together to meet the aim of the campaign (PDF). More than ever before, our cooperation will be facilitated by means of remote communication, which is intensely developed and verified during the COVID-19 pandemic. The TIPH Global campaign involves also students who form a group of TIPH Global Ambassadors. The global network of public health students gives hope for the fullest possible inclusion of academic youth in raising awareness about public health issues, careers, and education.
The 20 TIPH Global Grant Program Awardees are the members of one of the 6 regional associations gathering academic centers in the field of public health. Their names together with their projects are listed hereby by their regional association affiliation:
In Latin America region – Alianza Latinoamericana de Salud Global (ALASAG):
In Asia-Pacific region – Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH):
In African region – Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA):
In Euro-Asian region – Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER):
In area of activities of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH):
In South East Asia region – South East Asia Public Health Education Institutions Network (SEAPHEIN):
This year, the TIPH Global campaign intertwines with the XXX-th anniversary of establishing IPH, and thus also the Jubilee of the Academic Public Health in Poland (see also: https://izp.wnz.cm.uj.edu.pl/en/aktualnosci/xxx-years-of-the-academic-public-health-in-poland-the-jubilee-of-the-school-institute-of-public-health-fhs-ju-mc-in-krakow/). We believe this provides us with a unique opportunity to increase the visibility of public health in line with the title of our project ” Public Health now – building on rich tradition and successes let’s respond to the challenges of the future!”.
Information on our activities and events organized as part of the TIPH Global campaign will be available on websites and social media of IPH and partnering institutions.
We encourage everyone to join the campaign and promote public health and career opportunities in this field!
